Altamont Scores Early But Falls at Shelbyville

Altamont baseball put up two early runs, but that would be it for the Indians as they suffered a 5 to 2 loss at Shelbyville on Friday. The host Rams scored first to take a 1-0 lead, but Altamont answered quickly with a pair of runs as Keegan Schultz led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to left field. Later in the inning with a runner at second, Zaine Miller singled and then an error on the play allowed Kaiden Wolff to score as the Indians went up 2-0. Just as Altamont responded quickly in the inning, Shelbyville did the same as they put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning to regain the lead for good 3-1. The Rams added two more runs in the fourth inning to push their lead to 5-2 while continuing to hold the Indians scoreless since the second inning and would go on to close out the game and give Altamont the 5-2 loss. The Indians are now 17-9 on the season and will begin postseason play next week. They have a quarterfinal round BYE and will play their first Regional game in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6:15pm at Dieterich High School, taking on the winner of the quarterfinal game between Martinsville and Casey-Westfield.
