Vandals Struggle to Get Big Hit in Loss to OPS


The Vandalia Vandals left nine runners on base and struggled to come through with a big hit as they fell to the Odin-Patoka-Sandoval Eagles 6-3 on Thursday. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Vandals would tie the game in the third when Kohnor Depew came home to score on a Jack Lewis Groundout. After a scoreless fourth inning, OPS would erupt for four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Vandalia would answer in the bottom half of the fifth when Depew reached on an error, and later came around to score on an RBI groundout from Lewis. Two batters later, Brock Willenborg would rip a double to left field to score courtesy runner Issac Sachan to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Eagles would get a run back in the sixth and hold the Vandals scoreless the rest of the way to come away with the 6-3 win. The loss drops the Vandals to 11-16 on the season. They will wrap up the regular season on Saturday to take on Flora.
