Altamont Girls Track Qualifies Five Athletes for IHSA State Track Meet in Five Events

The Altamont Lady Indians track and field team is sending five athletes to the IHSA 1A Girls State Track Meet in five events after turning in qualifying performances at the Newton 1A Girls Sectional on Wednesday. Senior Abby Weishaar and freshman Ada Roberts will both compete in individual events at State. Weishaar qualified in the 400m Dash with a qualifying time 1:01.17 seconds after finishing in third place and turned in a second place finish in the 200m Dash with a time of 27.06 seconds and Roberts turned in a second place finish in the Long Jump with a best jump of 16’ 5” to earn her spot in the State Meet. The Lady Indians will also send two relays to State as the 4×100 relay team of Gabby Weishaar, Roberts, Katie Tedrick and Abby Weishaar ran a time of 51.87 seconds to come in second place and the 4×200 relay team of Roberts, Keely Fleeharty, Tedrick and Gabby Weishaar ran a time of 1:52.22 to finish in second place. With only 7 athletes competing in the meet, Altamont also finished in fourth place as a team out of 17 teams competing in the Sectional Meet. The IHSA 1A Girls State Track Meet will be held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston with Preliminaries held on Thursday, May 22.
