South Central baseball unleashed their offense in the second inning, scoring seven runs on the way to a 9 to 0 shutout win over Edwards County at home on Friday. A pair of singles and a pair of walks led to the Cougars scoring the first run of the game on a RBI single from Evan Hoover in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. South Central started rolling in the second, loading the bases with a single and two walks to start the inning before a line drive single from Colton Smith scored two runs and a double from Chase Guerrettaz brought in two more for a 5-0 Cougar lead. A RBI groundout by Maddox Robb brought in another run and a pair of Lions errors allowed two more runs as South Central went up 8-0 to end the second inning. Two scoreless innings would see the Cougars still leading 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning where a RBI single from Guerrettaz brought in the last Cougar run of the game as they closed out the 9-0 shutout win. Callaway Smith got the win on the mound, going all seven innings giving up no runs on three hits while allowing one walk and striking out six batters. South Central improves to 10-10 on the season and they will get back to work after the weekend off, hosting Neoga on Monday at Lions Field.
