Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for May 10 are the Vandalia and Altamont Boys Track and Field teams.

The Vandalia boys track and field claimed the South Central Conference Championship on Tuesday in the SCC Meet held at Carlinville High School. The Vandals bested second place Litchfield by 12 points and finished 20 points ahead of third place Carlinville. The Vandals had two athletes claim three event championships as junior Kohnor Depew won first place in both the 100m Dash and the 200m Dash and senior Ian Whitehead claimed the conference title in the 400m Dash.

Altamont boys track and field have repeated as the National Trail Conference Champions, winning the 2025 NTC Meet held in Altamont on Tuesday. The Indians scored 172 points to finish well ahead of second place CHBC with 134 points and third place St. Anthony with 109 points. The Indians win was led by four event champion Ben Roedl who took first in the 100m Dash, high jump, long jump and triple jump and event champions Jacob Johnson in the 200m Dash, Brock Wendling in the Shot Put and relay wins in the 4×100 and the 4×200. Also during the meet, junior pole vaulter Jacob Veteto won the pole vault title and also broke the school record in the event with a height of 14’ 10” to break the record held by Tim Moore since 2018.
