Vandalia softball trailed early and could never overcome that deficit as they suffered a 10 to 3 loss at Litchfield on South Central Conference action on Thursday. The Purple Panthers put up five runs in the first inning, three more in the second and a pair of runs in the third inning to get up 10-0 over Vandalia. The Lady Vandals got things moving in the top of the fourth inning with Bella Walk leading off the inning off with a single and Mady McCall bringing her in to score with a one out RBI double to left field. Katy Sefton reached base with a line drive single to center field to put runners at the corners. Kenlie Finn then singled on a hard ground ball to left field to bring in courtesy runner Sierra Stewart, move Sefton to second base and to cut it to a 10-2 game. Ollie Whitehead then doubled to left field to score Sefton and cut it to a 10-3 deficit. That would be it for the game’s scoring as a strikeout ended the inning and both team held each other scoreless in the final inning and a half to give Vandalia the 10-3 loss. The Lady Vandals drop to 5-14 on the season and 0-6 in the SCC. They will be right back in action today at Staunton for another SCC matchup.
