South Central Can't Overcome Rough First Inning in Loss to Salem


South Central baseball had an uncharacteristic three errors on the first inning on Wednesday and couldn’t overcome the four runs scored by Salem in the inning as the Cougars fell to the Wildcats, 7 to 2, at home. Salem was able to get their leadoff batter aboard on a South Central error and scored on a walk, a hit by pitch and two more errors to pull ahead of the Cougars 4-0. South Central cut into the Salem lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a 2-run home run from Callaway Smith, cutting their deficit to 4-2. Salem responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, which ended up being the last runs to cross the plate as South Central couldn’t catch up and was handed the 7-2 loss. The Cougars drop to 8-10 on the season and will play at home again today against Newton.
