Altamont and South Central Fall in Semifinals, SEB Falls in Consolation Game at NTC Tournament

Altamont and South Central both suffered losses in the Championship Semifinals of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament on Wednesday while St. Elmo-Brownstown fell on the Consolation side of the bracket. Altamont and Windsor/Stew-Stras battled strong for seven innings with it coming down to who scored the first, and eventual only run of the game, to decide the winner. The Hatchets scored in the bottom of the sixth inning while the Lady Indians were held hitless and WSS beat Altamont 1-0. WSS advances to the Championship game on Friday at 6:00pm and Altamont goes to the Third Place game, also on Friday at 4:15pm. In the second Championship semifinal game, South Central found themselves down 5-0 to St. Anthony, but scored three unanswered runs including two coming off a 2-run home run by Kyra Swift to pull within two runs, 5-3. Four more runs by the Bulldogs had the Cougars trailing 9-3, but again South Central put up a pair of runs to cut the St. Anthony lead down to 9-5. But once again the Bulldogs pulled away, with a five run seventh inning to close out the 14-5 win over South Central. The Lady Cougars will go to the Third Place game to face Altamont at 4:15pm on Friday. On the Consolation side of the bracket, SEB jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but Dieterich would run all the game’s offense from there on with 11 runs to beat the Lady Eagles 11-1 and eliminate SEB from the tournament while Dieterich moves on to the Fifth Place game on Friday at 4:15pm.
