South Central Suffers Extra Inning Heartbreaker Loss at WSS


South Central baseball couldn’t hold off Windsor/Stew-Stras’ hitting attack as the Hatchets beat the Cougars 5-4 in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning in Tuesday. South Central jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, scoring on a RBI walk, a passed ball and a steal of home. WSS cut the Cougar lead down to a run with two runs on the bottom half of the inning as South led 3-2 to end the first. A Colton Smith home run pushed the Cougar lead out to 4-2 in the fifth inning before the Hatchets put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and send it to extra innings. South Central got back to back singles with one out in the top of the eighth inning, but the runners were stranded after a ground out and a strikeout ended the half inning. WSS led off the bottom of the eight with a single before a fielder’s choice and a strikeout led to the first two outs of the inning. Another Hatchet single, runners were at the corners before a single to center field brought in the winning run as South Central suffered the 5-4 loss. The Cougars drop to 8-9 on the season and will be back at home today to host Salem.
