Lady Vandals Seventh Inning Surge Not Enough in SCC Loss at Carlinville


Vandalia was able to jump out to an early lead and scored three runs in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as they suffered a tough 7-6 loss at Carlinville in South Central Conference softball action on Friday night. Bella Walk led the game off with a walk and an RBI single from Elaina Hagy brought Walk in to score. Hagy then scored on a Cavies error for a 2-0 Vandalia lead. The Lady Vandals added on one more run as Mady McCall scored on a RBI groundout by Kenlie Finn as Vandalia led 3-0. Carlinville scored two runs in the first inning another five unanswered runs across the third and fourth innings to take the lead and put the Lady Vandals behind 7-3. Vandalia rallied in the top of the seventh with two outs as a line drive double off the bat of McCall scores Walk and Hagy and Katy Sefton followed up with a double to right field to score McCall as the Lady Vandals pulled to within one run of Carlinville, 7-6. A groundout ended the game though as the Lady Vandals took the 7-6 loss. Vandalia drops to 4-13 on the season and will play again on Monday as they will host Southwestern in SCC action.
