Vandalia scored all four of their runs early and then held off Pana to get a 4 to 3 win over the Panthers in South Central Conference action on Tuesday. Pana grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Vandalia quickly countered as the Vandals leadoff hitter Kohnor Depew hit a home run to left field to tie the game up at 1-1. Then in the second inning, Chase Cearlock reached base on an error to lead off the bottom half of the inning and Owen Halford reached base when he was hit by a pitch. With two outs, and the Vandals getting back to the top of the lineup, Depew stepped up to the plate and blasted his second home run of the day to left field to bring in three runs and put Vandalia up 4-1. After three scoreless innings Pana cut the Vandals lead to 4-2 with a run in the sixth inning and put up one more in the seventh inning before the Vandals were able to shut the Panthers down and hold on for the 4-3 win. Vandalia moves to 7-11 on the season and 1-3 in the SCC. They be at home again on Thursday as they host Brownstown-St. Elmo.
