BSE Comes Up Short in NTC Championship Battle

In what was expected to be a heavyweight fight, the National Trail Conference Tournament Championship game was a battle from tip-off to the final buzzer as Brownstown-St. Elmo came up just short in a 49 to 44 loss to St. Anthony. The Bulldogs would open the scoring with a quick basket but BSE responded with a bucket from Madi Miller who would score all six of the Bombers first quarter points as St. Anthony went on a late run in the quarter, taking advantage of a handful of BSE turnovers to pull ahead 15-6. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, BSE leading scorer Dayana Haslett would get things going in the second quarter with nine points as the Bombers would turn up the defense and force seven Bulldog turnovers as they outscored St. Anthony 10-7 to cut their deficit down to six points, 22-16, at halftime. The third quarter was a true back and forth tug of war as the two teams would trade field goals and free throws with BSE taking the scoring advantage in the quarter, 13-12, and trimmed their deficit down to five points, trailing 34-29 to start the fourth quarter. BSE would stick with their perimeter game in the fourth quarter, hitting four three-pointers in the period including one from Miller, once from Addie Sasse and two more from Haslett. With both teams dropping 15 points in the quarter, BSE was unable to completely close the gap as the Bombers fell to the Bulldogs, 49-44. The loss is just the third of the season as they now stand at 20-3 overall. They will have another shot at redemption against St. Anthony as they still have to meet in regular season NTC action on February 6 with that game to be played at Brownstown High School.

BSE Scoring:

Dayana Haslett – 29 points

Madi Miller – 10 points

Addie Sasse – 3 points

Mya Barker – 2 points
