BSE Outlasts Altamont in NTC Tournament Semifinals

One week after meeting each other in regular season National Trail Conference action, Brownstown-St. Elmo and Altamont met again in the semifinals of the NTC Tournament with the Lady Bombers holding off the Lady Indians for a 52 to 47 win. The Bombers jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, but the Lady Indians would get their offense going and keep it to a two possession game with BSE using their perimeter and mid-range game to lead 16-10 at the end of the quarter. The Lady Bombers would continue finding their way to the basket and drop 12 points in the second while Altamont was held to just a single field goal in the period while going 5 of 6 at the free throw line to put up eight points. With the 12-8 second quarter run, BSE pushed their lead out to double digits, going up by ten, 28-18, at halftime. Altamont began to lock in their perimeter game in the third, hitting four three-pointers in the quarter as they outscored BSE 16-11 and closed the Bomber lead to 39-34. The game would remain tight throughout the fourth quarter as the teams would trade baskets early with Altamont closing it up to a three point game, but foul trouble would put Altamont at the threshold halfway through the quarter. While BSE would only go 2 of 6 from the line and allow Altamont to hang close, the Lady Indians would put the Lady Bombers at the line three more times in the final 1:08 of the game with BSE hitting 3 of 6 to keep Altamont at arms-length as they closed out the five point win, 52-47. BSE improves to 20-2 on the season and will advance to the Championship game on Saturday night at 7:30pm to face St. Anthony. Altamont drops to 9-13 on the season and will move into the Third Place game on Saturday at 2:30pm where they will take on Windsor/Stew-Stras.
