The 2024-2025 edition of Vandalia Wrestling is making their mark on program history, essentially re-writing history one step at a time with their most re-write coming Saturday as they captured their first ever team title at the Lyle King Princeton Invitational Tournament. After opening the day with a three point lead over Coal City, the Vandals tallied 279.5 points for first place, 7.5 points ahead of the Coalers second place total of 272. Both of those teams ran away from the pack as third place, Richmond-Burton scored just 184 points. Individually, the Vandals have four PIT Champions as Max Philpot at 113 and Tyson Waughtel at 126 both stayed undefeated on the season to get to 32-0 and win their weight classes while Preston Waughtel at 120, now 30-1, and Kaden Tidwell at 190, now 29-2, continued their dominating seasons. Dillon Hinton at 150 suffered just his second loss of the season in the title bout to finish in second place and stands at 29-2 on the season. The Vandals got a trio of fifth place finishes from Aiden Evans at 106 (26-7 on the season), Cole Yarbrough at 138 (24-7 on season) and Ross Miller at 175 (25-9 on season). Brody Matthews at 132 (25-7) and Dominic Swyers at 215 (21-11) both finished in sixth place while Dade Kleinik at 157 (17-6) came in seventh place and Artan Mustafa at 165 (22-9) finished in eighth place. The Vandals will be back in action this week as they take their 24-1 record on the road with a pair of triangulars. They will be at Carlinville on Tuesday to face the host Cavies and East Alton-Wood River and will go to Highland on Thursday to face the host Bulldogs and Litchfield.
