BSE Girls Get 13th Straight Win, Beat Mt. Olive 59-33

Brownstown-St. Elmo girls basketball returned from their slightly extended New Year’s break picking up where they left off, running away to a 59 to 33 win over Mt. Olive at home on Thursday night. On a night where fanfare ruled with the Inaugural class of the Brownstown Hall of Fame being inducted, the Lady Bombers showed up strong from the tip-off, running out to a quick 9-0 lead and then using a 7-4 run in the latter half of the first quarter to go up 16-4. While Mt. Olive would quell some of their turnover issues in the second quarter, BSE was able to outscore the Wildcats 17-7 in the quarter to end the first half with a 33-11 lead. Excitement continued in the third quarter as Bombers fans were on the edge of their seats to start the half as sophomore guard Dayana Haslett entered the half just four points away from the 1,000 career point milestone. It took just a few minutes until Haslett would get her second basket of the third quarter at the 4:32 mark which would put her at 1,000 points, a big feat for a sophomore playing in just their 53rd high school game. BSE would get back to business after a quick celebration and keep their large lead to end the third, leading Mt. Olive 50-23 to start the fourth quarter. The Bombers would be outscored 10-9 in the final eight minutes but would close out the big win. Three Lady Bombers ended the game in double digit scoring as Haslett finished with 23 points, Peyton Barker scored 14 points and Presley Williams tallied 12 points. With their 13th straight win, BSE moves to 17-2 on the season and will get a week off now before jumping back into National Trail Conference action with a big matchup at Altamont on January 16.

BSE Scoring:

Dayana Haslett – 23 points

Peyton Barker – 14 points

Presley Williams – 12 points
