The Vandalia High School competitive cheerleading squad has qualified for the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association (ICCA) State Championships in two divisions. The squad earned their trip to State in the first of two divisions, the Small Team Varsity Game Day division by turning in a 4th place finish with a qualifying score at the ICCA’s Pinckneyville Invitational on December 8. Vandalia also competed in Small Team Varsity Routine division that day coming in 11th place, but did not receive a qualifying score. The Vandals then took a road trip to the Peoria Invitational this past Saturday and would turn in a 6th place finish and achieved a qualifying score to earn a trip the ICCA Championships in their second division. Vandalia has one more invitational on their schedule as they look to polish up their routines at the Greenville Invitational on January 5 before heading to Springfield where they will compete in the ICCA Championships on January 11 at the Bank of Springfield Center. While the Championships are being held on both January 11 and 12, Vandalia’s two divisions will both compete on Saturday. The official competition schedule for the weekend will be out closer to the date of the Championships.
