Mulberry Grove's Henrichsmeyer Wins First Annual Jeff Koontz Sportsmanship Award

A new and very special honor was handed out at conclusion of the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday evening. This past August, Jeff Koontz, a member of the Mulberry Grove School Board passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. In speaking about Koontz, it was written that he was described by his family as “loyal, caring, compassionate, a talented athlete in high school and an all around great guy.” To honor Koontz’s memory, the “Jeff Koontz Sportsmanship Award” will be presented each year at the conclusion of the tournament to the participating athlete who “embodies the definition of who Jeff Koontz was as a person.” This year’s award honoree is Mulberry Grove junior Hagan Henrichsmeyer. On hand to present the award to Henrichsmeyer was Tina Koontz, wife of the late Jeff Koontz.
