South Central High School grad Spencer Patton will don the Team USA Baseball uniform this November as one of 15 pitchers named to the USA roster for the WSBC Premier-12 Competition. Patton is currently a member of Olmecas de Tabasco in the Mexican Baseball League and will be one of nine pitchers with MLB experience on this year’s team. During this last season in Mexico, Patton made appearances in 42 games, accumulating a 2.29 ERA and 4-1 record as he struck out 64 batters across a total of 39.1 innings pitched.
Team USA will be coached by longtime MLB manager Mike Scioscia and USA will be in Group A along with Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Group B will be made up of Australia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Japan, Korea and Chinese Taipei. USA will compete in Guadalajara and Tepic, Mexico for their five Group A games from November 9-14. If they are one of the top 2 finishers in the Group, they will then go to Tokyo from November 21-24 to compete in the Super Round.
