CHBC Junior Macee Rodman Surpasses 1,000 Career Point Milestone

It may not have happened in the setting she wanted for it to happen, but nevertheless, CHBC junior Macee Rodman has notched herself in the history books for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City girls basketball, becoming the newest member of the 1,000 Point Club during Saturday’s game at Flora. With the Bobcats going on the road Saturday, Rodman had hoped to reach the mark during Thursday’s home game against Nokomis. However, that game turned out to be the most physical matchup of the year for CHBC with Nokomis focusing most of their defensive strategy on keeping the ball out of Rodman’s hands in any way possible. After ending that game with 14 points and being 10 short of 1,000 points, the milestone would have to wait a couple days. The matchup with Flora would not go how the Bobcats wanted it to, but with 9 points in the game when she stepped to the free throw line with 5:36 remaining in the fourth quarter, Rodman took a deep breath and sank the first free throw to reach the 1,000 point mark. Being able to go ahead and reach the mark, Rodman says it was a relief and she can now focus on what else is ahead for the upcoming last week of the regular season and postseason.

With Nokomis and Flora paying a lot of attention to her specifically and trying to deny her the milestone in their respective matchups, when asked Rodman says she does take that as a compliment to her abilities.

While it is an exclusive club for basketball athletes to reach 1,000 career points, it’s an even more exclusive club for athletes to reach the milestone prior to their senior year. And Rodman says being able to reach the milestone this year will allow her to set her sights on other goals and just play her game for the remainder of this season and her upcoming senior season.

Rodman will have, at the least, three chances to add on to her point total this season which stands at 1,003 after Saturday’s game. The Bobcats will play three games at home this week on Monday against Macon Meridian, Thursday against Ramsey and on Saturday when they host Decatur Unity Christian in the quarterfinals of the Effingham St. Anthony 1A Regional.
