Ramsey Tops Mulberry Grove in Overtime Battle for 7th Place at St. Elmo Holiday Tournament


The second meeting of the season between Ramsey and Mulberry Grove proved to be an exciting one as Ramsey got a little revenge from their first week loss to the Aces and defeated Mulberry Grove 83-77 in overtime of the 7th Place Game at the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament on Saturday afternoon. A winner by 14 in the first meeting of the teams, Mulberry Grove got off to a good start as Hagan Henrichsmeyer would drop in 8 points and be match by Ramsey’s Gunner Finley, also with eight, as the Aces would lead Ramsey 21-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Rams would outscores the Aces by a slim 17-16 margin in the second quarter to close the gap down to six points at halftime as Mulberry Grove led Ramsey 37-30 at the break. Ramsey would get their offense going steady in the third quarter and would tie the game up as the two teams matched each other basket for basket and the Aces clung to a slim 51-50 lead at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter would see Ramsey senior Landon Christian come out hot with 11 points while the balanced scoring attack of the Aces between Landon Sugg, Jackson Icenogle and Carter Scoggins kept it a tight game with the Rams outscoring Mulberry Grove 24-23 and the teams would be knotted up at 74-74 to end regulation. The overtime period would be all Ramsey as Kevin Moreland and Christian would each hit a big three-pointer and Gunner Finley hit two field goals as the Rams would put the game away for the 83-77 win. Ramsey would have three players score 20+ points in the game with 25 points from Christian, 23 points from Hayden Hayes and 21 points from Finley. Mulberry Grove would finish with two 20+ point scorers as Sugg tallied 21 points and Icenogle finished with 20 points. Ramsey improves to 2-10 on the season, ending a long nine game losing streak. They will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Father McGivney. Mulberry Grove drops to 3-7 on the season and will have a long holiday break before getting back into action on January 2 when they host Lebanon.
