McCall Takes Second, Beesley and Finley Come Up Just Short at IHSA 1A Boys Golf Sectional

Vandalia senior Conner McCall finished second by way of two sudden death playoff holes at the IHSA 1A Waterloo Gibault Section at Acorns Golf Links to advance to the 1A State Tournament while Vandalia senior Jonah Beesley came up one stroke short and Ramsey senior Gunner Finley was just five strokes shy of the mark needed to advance to State. Teeing off on Hole #1, McCall had a rough front nine, shooting four over par with a bogey, a double bogey and a triple bogey overshadowing two birdies. McCall would bounce back on the back nine in a big way, recording five birdies on the final nine holes to finish with a 1 under par 71 for the day, tying with Christ Our Rock Lutheran’s Parker Boehne who would then beat McCall after two playoff holes to take the top spot with McCall placing first after the tiebreaker. McCall will now compete in the IHSA 1A State Tournament at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington this weekend with Round 1 on Friday and Round 2 on Saturday.

For Beesley, he would also tee off from Hole #1 bogeying the first two holes before a birdie and six holes at par put him at 1 over par after playing the front nine. Beesley would record three bogeys and six pars on the back nine to finish with a 4 over 76 on the day what would put him in a 4-way tie for 14th, just one stroke off the needed score of 75 that would be the cut for individual players not on an advancing team to move on to the State Tournament.

For Finley, the Ramsey senior would tee off from Hole #10 and after a double bogey on 10, Finley would birdie Hole #11 and finish the back nine with a 3 over par 39 and would shoot a 5 over 41 on the front nine to come in at 8 over 80 for the day. That mark would put Finley in a seven-way tie for 34th place.
