Robertson Takes 4th in Decathlon at USATF U20 Outdoor Championships

Jadon Robertson, former CHBC track standout and current SIU Salukis, made some noise in his Decathlon debut at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships this weekend in Eugene, Oregon, claiming fourth place in the event after two days of competition at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Robertson stood at third place in the overall Decathlon standings after a strong Day 1 and the first five of ten events, taking first place in the high jump, third place in the long jump, fifth place in both the 100m Dash and the Shot Put and sixth place in the 400m Dash.

Getting back underway on Sunday, Robertson started the day off in a big way with a 1st place finish in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.37 seconds that would move him up to second on the overall leaderboard. Robertson followed that up with a 5th Place finish in the Discus Throw that would move him up into the top spot on the leaderboard. In the 8th event of the Decathlon, Robertson finished 8th in the Pole Vault that would drop him down to 4th overall, but a 5th place finish in the Javelin Throw would move him back up to 3rd overall heading into the final event, the 1500m Run. Robertson would run the mile in 5:23.54 for 8th place that would have him end the Decathlon with 6,540 points, good for 4th place.

That fourth place finish would have him just one spot away from what would have been a spot on Team USA for the upcoming Pan-Am U20 Games in August. The USATF U20 Outdoor Championships and Robertson’s strong Decathlon debut on the national stage wraps up a big last couple of months where Robertson earned Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the meet honors at the MVC Outdoor Championships after placing in and earning points in four events for the Salukis who would finish 4th as a team.
