The Fayette County Freedom 12U (2010) softball team has earned a #1 seed heading into bracket play Sunday of their own tournament after going 2-0 in pool play on Saturday. Freedom kicked off tournament play with a 13-5 win over Central Illinois Lightning. After going up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, the Freedom had to battle back in the second inning after the Lightning put up 4 runs in their first at bat. A 7-run second inning would put the Freedom back on top 9-4 and they would stretch that lead to 13-4 in the top of the third before closing out the 13-5 win. In their second pool play game, Freedom would again take a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, but the Charleston Chill would put up three runs for a 3-2 lead to end the first. Freedom would reel off innings of two run, three runs, and two runs to take a commanding 9-3 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning, but the Chill would put together a run to get four runs across the plate and cut the lead to 9-7 before a pair of strikeouts would account for the final two outs as Freedom closed out the win.
With their 2-0 pool play record, Freedom has the top seed from the pool heading into bracket play and will play at 10:30am on Sunday against Blitz 11U.
