The Vandals fell behind early and couldn’t dig out of that hole in an 8 to 4 loss to Father McGivney in the season opener on Wednesday at Vandalia Mutual Field.
The Griffins scored 3 runs with 2 outs in the first inning and then added 2 more runs in the 2nd inning to build up an early 5 to 0 lead. They would expand that lead to 7 to 0 going into the bottom of the 4th inning. But, the Vandals rallied and put 3 runs on the board with RBI hit from Carson Lotz and a sacrifice fly from Owen Miller among the Vandals RBI. Father McGivney would expand the lead to 8 to 3 going into the bottom of the 7th. The Vandals would get one run on the board in the bottom of the 7th before falling. Vandals Baseball Coach Nick Casey says, despite the loss, he was pleased with the play in game one.
The Vandals are now 0-1 on the season. They are off until Tuesday when they will travel to Hillsboro.
