The Altamont Indians have come up short in their bid for a first Sectional title after falling 72-68 to Tuscola in four overtimes in the Altamont 1A Sectional Championship game on Friday night. The game turned into one for the ages with many twists and turns. In a completely flipped script from the first time these two teams met just three weeks ago with Tuscola getting out to a quick lead, it was Altamont who would control the game in the first quarter this time around. The Indians would score early and often with Dillan Elam putting in 8 points, Avery Jahraus 6 points and Mason Robinson with 3 points to put Altamont up 17-6 at the end of the first quarter. After the Warriors would hit a couple baskets to start the second quarter to close Altamont’s lead to 17-10, the Indians would again take control with a 10-3 run as Kaidyn Miller would get a couple put back baskets and Eli Miler and Jared Hammer would get in the scoring column putting Altamont up 27-13 at halftime. After the break, Tuscola would be the team to come out with the momentum as they were able to hold the Indians to just six points in the third quarter on baskets from Hammer and Robinson and also two free throws from Robinson while putting in 19 points to cut the Altamont lead all the way down to just one point, 33-32 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter would see several trips to the free throw line as the Indians would get two field goals in the quarter, both from Robinson but then would go 8 of 11 from the line. Tuscola would match that with four baskets from the field and going 4 of 4 at the line to pull even as the two teams would be knotted in a 46-46 tie at the end of regulation to head into overtime. The first overtime was one of little offense with the Indians only scoring coming in the form of two made free throws from Hammer and a basket from Robinson with Tuscola not faring any better with a three-pointer and one made free throw as the two were again tied up 50-50 at the end of the first overtime to send the game to a second overtime. Scoring was again at a premium as Dillan Elam would hit for one field goal and two free throws with Robinson also hitting for a field goal and Jahraus making a free throw for seven points in the period. Tuscola would hit for one three-pointer, another field goal and a pair of free throws as the teams again found themselves tied up, this time at 57-57 to go into a third overtime. Robinson would be the only Indian to break thru and get on the scoreboard in the third overtime, putting in all 6 of the Indians’ points but Tuscola would hit a pair of three-pointers to again knot up the game, 57-57 this time as the game would go into yet another overtime period, this one the fourth of the game. Tuscola would outlast Altamont in the fourth overtime though with 9 points while the Indians got just 5, with baskets from Eric Kollman and Robinson along with a free throw from Elam, as they would run out time and see their season come to a close with a hard fought 72-68 loss. The Indians finish their season at 29-5.
