Breese, IL – The Greenville-based Illinois Archers basketball teams engaged in a thrilling conclusion to the Clinton County Youth League, finding success during tournament action. The third grade boys’ team prevailed in the consolation bracket while the fourth-grade Archers emerged as tournament champions.
Saturday’s action started with the third grade team losing a closely contested game 7 to 6 against the Junior Saints. Brantley Jackson, Javontae Petty, Ethan Shadowens, Baylor Wittig, Grant Hollenkamp, Silas Bradshaw, Cullen Hamel, and Cysian Davis followed up with back-to-back wins against Breese and Trenton to win the consolation championship.
Sunday’s contest featured the fourth-grade iteration of the Archers, who received a double-bye after finishing in first place during the regular season. The team won the semifinal contest against Trenton 25-15, with all eleven players seeing action. The fourth-grade players prevailed in the championship game against a talented Breese team, with a final score of 19-16. The fourth grade Archers include Connor Wayman, Kobe Athison, Daniel Estevez, Jackson Swalley, Harper Neece, Easton Walker, Griffin Rehkemper, Cody Lingley, Zach Goggin, Thailer Coakley, and Owen Haston. The fourth grade team currently has a record of 12-1 with eleven games remaining on the schedule.
