Turn Back the Clock – 2012 Vandalia High School Girls Volleyball Regional Champions
The 2012 Vandalia High School girls volleyball team finished the season with a record of 25-6, winning the program’s first Regional Championship since 1985 when they beat Flora in two sets 25-18, 25-17 in the Vandalia Regional. Their season came to an end when they fell to South Central Conference rival Pana 16-25, 25-22, 19-25 in the semifinals of the Cumberland Sectional.
During the first week of the season, the girls captured the Altamont Tournament Championship, beating Cumberland 25-9, 24-26, 15-12. Just a couple weeks later, the Lady Vandals won their own Vandal Tournament, beating South Central 26-24, 25-22.
In the South Central Conference play, the Lady Vandals went a perfect 9-0 to become Conference Champions and would also earn the #1 seed of their own Vandalia Regional. In the Regional Semifinals, the Lady Vandals beat Altamont 25-23, 25-17 to earn their spot in the Championship. With a 25-18, 25-17 win over Flora, the Lady Vandals secured their first Regional Championship since 1985.
The Lady Vandals would graduate 7 seniors from the championship team: Haley Cothern, Abby Dugan, Shelby Foster, Austyn Krueger, Rachelle Leiken, Gabby McNutt and Sierah Ruffner.
