SC Storm Chasers Go 4-1 and Take 2nd Place at I-70 Showdown in O’Fallon, Missouri

The SC Storm Chasers 15U baseball team went 4-1 at the Game 7 Baseball I-70 Showdown held this past weekend at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex in O’Fallon, Missouri.

In their first game of pool play, the Storm Chasers kicked things off with a 5-1 win over the Rawlings Tigers-Launch 15U of St. Louis, 5-1. Aidan Dodson got the win on the mound with Ethan Watwood picking up the save with Logan Fleener, Ethan Dunn and Matt Morris all facing batters as well as the five combined to get the no-hitter. At the plate, Chase Thompson, Beau Joliff, Brandt Heistand, Dunn and Morris all had a hit apiece while Joliff and Dunn each picked up two RBI.

In their second game of pool play, the Storm Chasers got their bats going, beating Adidas Athletics 15U Navy, 11-3. Jolliff got the win on the mound with Spencer Johannes earning the save. Offensively, Andrew Magnus had two hits and 2 RBI while Dunn, Watwood and Heistand all had a hit and 2 RBI each. Anthony Buonaura and Noah Kee each had a hit and an RBI while Dodson, Morris and Johannes each had a hit and Thompson had an RBI.

That 2-0 record in pool gave SC a #2 seed heading into bracket play where they faced Adidas Academy 15U in the quarterfinals, getting the 5-2 win. Kee was the winning pitcher with Dunn getting the save. Thompson, Fleener and Watwood all had a hit apiece while Buonaura, Jolliff, Heistand and Kee all had one RBI each.

In the semifinals, the Storm Chasers beat the Rawlings Tigers of Southern Illinois, 7-4, to earn them a spot in the championship game. Watwood got the win on the mound and Johannes got the save. Heistand had 2 hits and 2 RBI in the game while Morris had a hit and a RBI. Johannes, Kee, Fleener and Jolliff all had one hit while Buonaura, Thompson, Dunn and Watwood all had an RBI each.

In the championship game, the Storm Chasers dropped a close one, 7-5, to the S.I. Bucs. The two teams were tied 5-5 before the Bucs put up two runs in the bottom of the 5th and got the win.  Dodson took the loss on the mound for the Storm Chasers. Jolliff had a hit and 2 RBI, Buonaura had a hit and an RBI and Thompson had a hit in the game.

Overall the Storm Chasers are now 5-1 on their summer season. They will next play in Cape Girardeau next weekend.
