/ I70Sports

(Chicago, IL) —  The Blackhawks are cutting salaries and furloughing some employees as the COVID-19 shutdown of the NHL season drags on.  Interim team president Danny Wirtz says the salary reductions and furloughs were difficult but necessary decisions.  He added that the franchise has also taken other steps to minimize expenditures.  The NHL paused its season March 12th.  The league is reportedly evaluating numerous plans for resuming the 2019-20 season, with a recent proposal for a 24-team playoff.
