>>MLB Considering New Plan For Late June Start

(New York, NY)  —  Major League Baseball is optimistic it can start its season by late June.  USA Today reports a new plan is being explored with at least 100 games and all teams playing in their home park.  The league would be split into three, 10-team divisions with games only against divisional foes until the playoffs.

>>Pirates First To Suspend Retirement Benefits

(Pittsburgh, PA)  —  The Pirates are the first team to suspend retirement benefits due to the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.  The temporary suspensions apply to the baseball operations staff in the hope of avoiding personnel cuts.  The Bucs announced last week they intend to pay all employees through May.

>>Saints Agree To One-Year Deal With QB Winston

(Metairie, LA)  —  Quarterback Jameis [[ JAME-iss ]] Winston will try to revive his career in New Orleans.  The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller has agreed to a one-year contract with the Saints.  Winston will back up future Hall of Famer Drew Brees.  He became expendable when the Bucs signed Tom Brady.

>>Warriors’ Kerr Operating Like Season Is Over

(San Francisco, CA)  —  At least one NBA team feels like the season is over.  Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said in a conference call it feels like the offseason and that’s how he’s been operating.  He added a recent league coronavirus update from Warriors executive Bob Myers felt more like team exit interviews.

>>Lakers Seeking To Open Practice Facility Early

(El Segundo, CA)  —  The Lakers are hoping to open their practice facility before the shelter-at-home order expires for Los Angeles on May 15th.  ESPN reports the team has been in contact with the mayor’s office to discuss that possibility.  The NBA is giving the green light for players to return to team facilities next Friday.
