
Three I70Sports area alumni saw significant time on the field for Kaskaskia College as the Blue Devils baseball team went 5-8 before the cancellation of their season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Freshman pitcher Nate Philpot, a St. Elmo High school grad, appeared in 4 games of the Blue Devils, pitching 8 2/3 innings and earning a record of 1-1. Over his innings worked, Philpot gave up 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 11 and giving up 7 walks which was good for an ERA of 4.15. Philpot’s final three innings worked before the season cancellation were his most dominant as he allowed no runs and just two hits.
Freshman infielder Blake Morrison, a Vandalia High School graduate, played in 11 of KC’s 13 games. Morrison was 5-of-31 at the plate with 4 hits, 1 RBI, 2 walks and also had a stolen base. Morrison’s best game came on February 21 against Northeast Mississippi Community College when he was 2-for-3 with a run scored. In the field, Morrison had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
After spending his freshman year at University of Missouri-St. Louis, Greenville High School grad Trent Hlafka was in his first season with KC. The sophomore pitcher made three appearances giving up three runs (2 earned) on four hits in 1 2/3 innings of work. He recorded one strikeout and gave up two walks.
Sophomore infielder Nathan Casey, a Vandalia High School graduate, did not make an appearance for the Blue Devils in their 13 games prior to the cancellation. Casey came in to the season appearing in 29 of KC’s 41 games last season. In those games, Casey was 13-of-74 at the plate with 4 extra base hits and 12 runs scored. He also had 6 RBI and drew 21 walks for a slash line of .176/.370/.230 for the season.
