Comets Get 6-0 Win on Senior Night, Ordonez With Hat Trick

Greenville soccer finished off their regular season schedule with a 6-0 shutout win over Southwestern. Junior Desmond Gardner got the Comets on the board and senior Timo Ordonez added a goal in the first half to give the Comets a 2-0 lead at halftime. After sophomore Dima Powell added a goal early in the second half, Ordonez added two more goals to complete the hat trick and junior Tyler Rieke added another to complete the offensive attack for Greenville.

Junior goalkeeper Brock Kenny recorded a shutout and his final save with about 35 seconds left in the game tied him for the school record for saves in a single season.

Prior to the game, seniors Timo Ordonez and Brock Thacker were honored along with their parents.

The Comets end the regular season at 7-15-1 and 7-1 in the South Central Conference (2nd Place) and will begin play in the Breese Mater Dei 1A Regional on Friday at 5pm when they host Trenton Wesclin at Tom Doll Field. The Comets and Wesclin met once earlier in the season with the Warriors winning that game. The winner of Friday’s game would then face #1 seed Mater Dei at 5pm on Tuesday, October 15.
