Vandals Sports Hall of Fame will officially add 2 new members tonight

As part of the Homecoming festivities at Mark Greer Field tonight, 2 new Hall of Fame members will be inducted in the Vandals Sports Hall of Fame—

Shirley Campbell–Shirley served VCHS as a teacher, coach and scorekeeper for nearly 40 years.  She began teaching at VCHS in the 1978-79 school year.  During that first year of teach, she became the official scorer for Lady Vandal Volleyball.  In 1979, she became the first and only official scorekeeper in the history of Lady Vandal Basketball.  She was given the Lady Vandal Award in 2003 for her contributions to the program.  She was a fixture at the scorer’s table for Lady Vandal athletics until her passing in 2019.

Christopher Cox–A 2006 graduate of VCHS, Chris excelled at both wrestling and football.  In football, Chris was a 3 year letter winner and 2 year starter at both defensive back and running back.  And, he was 3rd team all conference running back as a Senior.  In wrestling, Chris was a 3 year starter, qualifying for Individual Sectional and the Individual State Tournament 3 times.  In 2003-04 as a Sophomore, Chris placed 4th in state at 135 pounds.  During a 41-2 Junior season, Chris became the first Vandal wrestler to win prestigious Princeton Tournament.  Chris’s Senior year was cut short by injury but he still amassed 119 wins in his 3 varsity seasons.  He also received numerous other individual award including all conference, all area and all state teams.  After graduation, Chris wrestled for McKendree College before returning to the Vandals wrestling program as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season.
